Wunderhaus is not quite a ‘machine for living’ – as espoused by the seminal architect Le Corbusier nearly a hundred years ago – but it might be a product assembled by machines instructed by clever design. Houses are traditionally designed from the outside in, with internal spaces compromised and crammed in to fit the external dimensions. This is akin to designing a car to fit an existing garage! In contrast Wunderhaus was designed from the inside out. This was to ensure that every room was perfectly proportioned and dimensioned to accommodate kitchen, bathrooms, storage and furniture, whilst providing functional space and minimising “wasted” space such as corridors and stairwells.

In contrast Wunderhaus was designed from the inside out. This was to ensure that every room was perfectly proportioned and dimensioned to accommodate kitchen, bathrooms, storage and furniture, whilst providing functional space and minimising “wasted” space such as corridors and stairwells.
In our research and development, we concentrated foremost on finding the most architecturally attractive, rational and effective 3 dimensional layout matrix, to produce the most exciting and practical solution with the maximum light, storage space and mechanical engineering distribution.

The resulting layout is revolutionary and absolutely unique, not just in its effectiveness, but in the fact that the very same layout can be used for ground and first floor, in an almost endless combination of Wunderhaus volumes, from 2 – 8 bedrooms in single or double storey, detached, semi detached or terraced configurations.

Wunderhaus developed a unique Component System Construction method to build the houses, where, just like an iPhone or a car every part of Wunderhaus is precision engineered and manufactured in a factory to take its specific place and function when assembled with ease and efficiency on site, ensuring certainty of quality, duration and cost every time.

It uses structural insulated panels for the superstructure because of their superior performance, as they are 3 times stronger than a masonry building and 7 times stronger than a timber frame house.
